On 21 July 2021, the International Olympic Committee announced that Brisbane and Queensland will become hosts of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Games are major opportunities for economy boost in Queensland, with a massive construction plan of 6 new sporting venues, 4 athletes villages, 8 existing venues to be upgraded, and more than 20 other existing venues to receive renovation works.
On 20 July 2023, Queensland Government launched a new website exclusively for their procurement masterplan in preparation of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in Queensland.
The website, named Q2032, delivers all the information you need about the proposed Olympic and Paralympic Games including a detailed map of the venues, the State’s strategies and information for tenders.
Most importantly, Queensland Government commits to enable Queensland businesses to grow through these major events by allowing them to be part of the Games. Businesses are invited to become contract suppliers of the government.
Opportunities will be rolled out from now on until 2032 and will vary from construction services, professional services, IT equipment, stands and seats, logistics, to laundry services, catering, flowers and customed gift services, etc.
Queensland Government encourage businesses to sign up to Q2032 procurement updates to receive tailored information of future opportunities. The Q2032 website will inform businesses of their fitness to become a supplier and steps to be taken to be ready for future tender opportunities and process.
Goods and services will be acquired by the government in accordance with their Buy Queensland approach. The approach, introduced in 2017, signifies the value that a government project could provide to the economy and local community as a whole rather than focusing on looking for a lowest bid.
Businesses that wish to become a supplier will be required to adhere to a number of ethical, social and environmental requirements. They must agree to the Queensland Government’s Supplier Code of Conduct and Ethical Supplier Mandate and Ethical Supplier Threshold which concerns various employment law issues.
